本文采用了潘文国教授提出的由汉到英,在一定范围内的穷尽分析法,选用了5位作者7本现代小说的9个片段作为原始材料,摘出其中所有含有“了”字的句子,观察它们在英译时的情况,并与英语的时体作比较。以此来验证潘文国教授通过对散文中的“了”字的英译进行穷尽性研究,得出的“了”不是“时标志”或“完成体标志”的结论,是否在小说中也成立。This article adopts Professor Pan Wenguo’s exhaustive analysis method from Chinese to English within a certain scope. It selects 9 fragments from 7 modern novels written by 5 authors as the original materials. This paper extracts all the sentences containing the word “le” (了), observes their translation into English, and compares them with the tense and aspect in English. This is to verify whether the conclusion of Professor Pan Wenguo, who conducted an exhaustive study on the English translation of the word “le” in prose, that “le” is not a “tense marker” or a “perfective aspect marker”, is also valid in novels.
