To integrate technology into the curriculum and the educational setting successfully, there is a need for an explicit definition of the pedagogical role of the technology. This article reviews studies on network-based EFL/ESL writing instruction and investigates the pedagogical role of computer networks in EFL/ESL writing instruction. It is concluded that computer networks can improve the traditional EFL writing instruction in China because the benefits of using computer networks for EFL/ ESL writing far outweigh the limitations.
