"The Fall of the House of Usher"is one of the most famous fictions of Edgar Allen Poe.He creates a suffocating horri ble atmosphere with many detailed descriptions.In order to realize the extreme terror effect,he pays much attention to the word selection and the sentence construction.Literary stylistics focuses on studying the unique characteristics,the choices of language and writing skills that the author adopts,and deeply analyzes the thematic meanings and artistic values of the literary work.This paper devotes to explore this fiction from three aspects:lexical level,grammatical level and discourse level to see how the author creates a horrible and gloomy atmosphere and deepens the theme of the fiction.
