This article analyses the differences between Christian and Taoist outlooks on women and their influence on environment, and claims that the Christian concept of discrimination against women has adversely affected the development of society. According to the author, men’s oppression of women is closely linked with mankind’s oppression of nature and the two must be resolved at the same time. In her opinion, the Taoist promotion of "feminine softness" and the outlook on nature-that of recovering one’s original simplicity-arising therefrom have been highly enlightening as well as instrumental in easing the side-effects the patriarchic system has brought in human development.
